Hello! I've got some specific questions about power nerfing, sorry! Tayrey here is genetically modified for improved health/constitution. Ideally I'd like to keep some aspects of this without giving her unfair advantage in the game, as the survival aspect is one I'm very interested in. Her specific differences from standard human:
Higher tolerance for extremes of temperature, radiation and other environmental conditions - totally nerfed, cold will affect her like anyone else. Immunity to non-infectious disease and health issues - I'm guessing this is okay to keep given other FAQ examples and because it's unlikely to come up anyway. Doesn't apply to injuries or external conditions like frostbite. Resistance to infectious disease - how this usually plays out is that she can get infected, but mildly, and if symptomatic she recovers more quickly due to an enhanced immune system. Ideally I'd like to keep this, but with unexpected outcomes possible if there's ever an illness plot - the illness is so novel to Tayrey, who isn't from Earth, that her genetic alterations don't account for it, or her immune reaction is *too* strong and causes Spanish Flu-style problems. Accelerated healing - it's not 'magical' or instant. If she's injured she still needs regular medical treatment, but she can last longer before getting treatment without it causing worse problems. Once treated, her recovery time will be quicker than average - a doctor might be mildly surprised by it but wouldn't call it miraculous. Scarring is present at first but slowly disappears over time. I'd like to keep this too, if possible, since it's much closer to a constitution bonus than any kind of superpower, but it's borderline enough that I wanted to check.
Her weapon - she has a high-tech energy pistol that would make her life far too easy if it worked normally (stun setting, firestarting and signalling capabilities...). I'd like her to have it as one of her 3 starting items but my suggestion is that the settings dial is irreparably broken and so its only working function is basically like a regular gun, she can shoot and it'll kill/wound/damage the target with an energy blast. It's powered by what are essentially futuristic batteries and she has some spares, but there's a built-in limitation that she can't fire too many times in succession or it'll overheat and fry the power cell (so there's a cooldown time! Basically balances it out so that it's not overpowered compared to someone who has to reload/conserve bullets)
Let me know if all this does/doesn't work, happy to make adjustments or answer questions if needed. Thank you! :)
